Repetitive I/R caused an early and sustained increase in glutathione peroxidase ( GPX ) transcript levels, while heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression increased only after 7 days of repetitive I/R. Overexpression of EC-SOD prevented the upregulation of GPX and HO-1 transcript levels by repetitive I/R, suggesting that both genes are regulated by ROS
