:
Previous studies have shown that the acute stimulation of
endothelial nitric-oxide synthase (eNOS) mRNA transcription by laminar shear stress is
dependent on nuclear factor kappa B (NFkappaB) subunits p50 and
p65 binding to a shear stress response element ( SSRE ) in the human eNOS promoter and that mutation of the SSRE abrogates the shear stimulated increase in eNOS promoter activity

We report here that adenovirus mediated expression of a dominant negative C-terminal truncation mutant of
p65/RelA ( p65RHD )
inhibits the induction of proinflammatory genes, such as E-selectin, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, IL-8, and inducible
nitric oxide synthase , in EC as efficiently as does I kappaB alpha
